THE JUBILE FOR WOMEN'S RIGHT TO WOTE

Actors and academics were present in the Storting,  on the day 100 years after the women's suffrage in 2013.
As actual people from the time period, the actors broke into series of lectures with several longer and shorter speeches.

On June 11 2013, a century after the Storting gave all women in Norway the right to vote, a seminar on the topic was held for the representatives of the Storting and other invited guests. Important speeches and parliamentary content from 1875 to 1913 were analyzed, and the project built on research and communication efforts on gender, rhetoric and non-fiction over several years.

Actors from  broke in between various lectures from real academics and performed Teigen's adaptation of actual speeches given in the Storting for and against women's right to vote from around 1880 until 1913. The speeches were partly staged as conversations, partly as rhetorical input to get the audience on their side.

"The woman is the Blessing of the Thousand Homes; he who takes her away from the Homes robs the thousand Homes of their Blessing, and this being so, it is the Blessing of her own Life".

Extract from Bishop Johan Christian Heuch's speech, Stortinget, 5 June 1890

With the celebration of the anniversary, Teigen was asked by the Storting's voting rights committee to stage women's right activist Gina Krogh and her speech "I was present at the great historical moment" outside the Storting.
